Getting Started

To participate in the Migration Factory workshop you must:

  • Have a laptop which will allow you to RDP a Bastion host
  • Be familiar with the AWS console
  • Be familiar with Application Migration Service (MGN)
  • A valid AWS Account - Optional - You can run Migration Factory workshop from your own account. In that case an AWS account with Administrator access is required to deploy the AWS Cloudformation that creates the emulated source environment.

If this workshop is being delivered by an AWS employee follow the steps marked as “EventEngine”

Terminology table

Term Description
Bastion Host Also known as Migration Execution Server. It is a Windows server to host and run all the automation scripts
MGN Also known as AWS Application Migration Service, a lift and shift solution to rehost servers to EC2 https://aws.amazon.com/application-migration-service/

Wave Also known as Migration wave, it is a group of apps and servers with the same migration schedule
